The Dunedin Heritage Light Rail Trust was formed with the aim of reinstating the Mornington cable car line. Currently (2019) four trustees serve, and they have the responsibility of planning the detail of how the service may be re-established, and of seeking the necessary funding.
The High Street Cable Car Society is a body formed to enable enthusiasts to support the project, and is open to public membership. An AGM is held in the latter part of the year; the rules of the Society may be seen at this link: Cable Car Society Rules 2018.
The Interim Cable Car Building at Mornington is not yet officially opened (this is anticipated 2019), but we do open informally from time to time, according to the availability of volunteer staff. (see FAQ for opening times) On these occasions, the public are most welcome to visit and to view, and to climb aboard, the cable cars.
